This conference was a groundbreaking cooperative ministers meeting, held for the first time in the the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by ICA-AP, with the cooperation of the Government of Jordan and the Jordan Co-operative Corporation. Its purpose was to promote cooperation, dialogue, and actionable strategies for fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development throughout the Asia-Pacific and MENA regions.
ARAI Chitose, Chairperson of the ICA-AP Committee on Women and Vice President of the Japanese Consumers’ Co-operative Union (JCCU) attended the meeting and reported on the activities of the committee. In addition, she emphasized the importance of governments and cooperatives working together to promote SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and proposed that this be incorporated into the policies of each country. Furthermore, a representative from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of the Government of Japan reported on the status of co-ops’ efforts towards the SDGs and their collaboration with the government.
