Philippine Embassy in Amman Marks 127th Independence Day, Strengthening Ties with Jordan

The Philippine Embassy in Amman held a reception to mark the 127th anniversary of the Philippine Declaration of Independence. The reception was attended by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Nimroqa and a number of officials, ambassadors, journalists, and invitees.
Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos emphasized the strength of Jordanian-Philippine relations, noting that the two countries are bound by a solid friendship spanning over 49 years, based on mutual respect and shared values.
He expressed his pride and honor in commemorating Independence Day, which symbolizes the Filipino people’s struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination, stressing that his country continues to build on this legacy to build a just and progressive society.
The Ambassador praised Jordan’s support for Filipinos residing in its territory, expressing his government’s gratitude for the care provided by His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian government, and for the safe conditions that enable the Filipino community to contribute to various sectors within Jordan. He stressed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, expressing optimism about the possibility of expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, culture, labor, and defense, especially since the remarkable progress in bilateral relations reflects the strength of diplomacy and the convergence of shared visions.
Regarding his country’s economic achievements, the ambassador noted that the Philippines is steadily moving toward achieving “upper-middle-income” status by 2026, thanks to its resilient economy and young, creative human resources.
The ambassador invited Jordanians to visit his country, pointing to the “Love the Philippines” tourism campaign, which promotes unique tourism experiences, a rich culture, and stunning nature.
The ceremony included artistic and cultural performances and video presentations that highlighted the Philippines’ rich cultural and tourism heritage.
